What to Bring to a CCTV Drain Survey
It is helpful for us if the property owner can do a little preparation before we arrive at the property to carry out the drain survey. Below are a few things to consider.
Dig Out Any Drainage Plans
Please dig out any building drawings, drainage layout plans or similar documentation relating to the property when it was built or extended. These plans are not required but they are very helpful as they show the surveyor which pipes join together and thus which run of pipes belong to which part of the property.
Know Which Drains Are in Scope
Remember that not all of the drains on your property are yours to survey. Drainage responsibility usually lies with the property owner for private drains but with water authorities for sewers and drains that are designed to carry wastewater. It is therefore useful to find out beforehand how drainage responsibilities are divided between you and your water company, particularly on older properties or those that have undergone extensions.
Clear Access to Manholes Beforehand CCTV Drain Survey Nottingham is covered in more detail at www.wilkinson-env.co.uk/drainage-services-cctv-surveys-midlands/cctv-drain-surveys/nottingham/.
Clear access to all manholes. Lift up any inspection chamber covers you know are associated with your property, clear pots, paving slabs and garden ornaments that have been used to build a decking over a manhole, and clear any rodding eyes of debris.
Note Any Known Problem History
Let us know of any previous problems with the drain, any previous repair work, how the drain was previously surveyed and any previous blockages or how the drain was previously unclogged (e.g. by rodding of roots etc). This will help us to focus on the areas of the drain that are more likely to be damaged or have root ingress.
Be Ready to Run the Taps
If your surveyor asks you to turn on your taps during the survey then flush your toilets to check flow, it would be helpful to have someone available on site to turn on the taps for the surveyor.
Preparation for your CCTV drain survey will enable the visit to run smoothly and the resultant report to be more comprehensive.
